The CMS Lockdown Orchestra

Music education and music-making in the borough has not stopped over the lockdown period. Here are some examples the pupils, and staff have recorded together.

The Thames Reach Youth Orchestra

The TRY orchestra brings together pupils from Barking & Dagenham Community Music Service and Thurrock Music Services.

Watching the video of LBBD’s CMS virtual orchestra was simply inspirational for so many reasons. The talent of the performers was uplifting and the effort that the CMS staff have clearly put into ensuring a musical and cultural education continues for their young musicians is admirable. My compliments to all involved!!!!

Jamie Bell

Head Teacher, Warren Junior School

The Thames Reach Youth Orchestra brings people together and unites them in a common purpose.  It challenges whilst remaining enjoyable.  It innovates in adversity.  It serves as an important stepping stone in a young person’s creative musical journey. It is music-making at it’s best.

Roy Dignum

Assistant and Acting Head , Thurrock Music Services

The TRY Orchestra is a prime example of partnership providing opportunities to children and young people that add value to both partners’ offer.  Barking & Dagenham Community Music Service and Thurrock Music Services have used technology to keep music alive and contribute to the wellbeing of young musicians in their respective areas.  We all look forward to making music face-to-face again but while we can’t, digital technology offers a way to celebrate what students are still achieving and to inspire them to keep progressing in their music learning.
